Discover the magic of the Philippines’ Third Region with this amazing historical and cultural province, only an hour by ferryboat across the bay from Manila. Until recently not a traditional tourist destination, Bataan is now proving to be a tourist haven boasting a multitude of exciting places to visit, and interesting things to do. The province has much to offer – a rich culture and history, the beauty of unspoilt beaches, and a warm hospitality that is truly Filipino.
Most of the agricultural portion of Bataan is in the north and east. The province experiences two pronounced seasons; dry from November until April and the wet from May to October. During World War II it was the scene of heavy fighting between Allied and Japanese forces from January 6, 1942, to April 9, 1942. Bataan fell to Japan on April 9 and was retaken by an American force on February 17, 1945.

The Bataan Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that seeks to empower the underprivileged in the Philippine province of Bataan. Along with its sister organization, the Bataan Association of USA, the Foundation is committed to strengthening the future of Bataan, and through its diverse social programs, the Foundation has made significant contributions to the Bataeno community.
The BAUSA Scholarship Program
One of the Foundation’s major projects is the BAUSA Scholarship Program, in conjunction with the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU). Each year, the Foundation grants scholarships to local students to attend the Bataan Peninsula State University. Currently, the Scholarship Program supports 12 students at BPSU, who are majoring in various fields such as nursing, computer science, engineering, accounting, and teaching.
Since 1994, 84 Students have graduated from the BAUSA Scholarship Program. To date, 100% of our graduates are employed, working both within the Bataan community and abroad. These graduates now have the ability to provide for their families and to contribute to the Philippine community at large.
Due to rising tuition costs, the Program is currently focused on increasing the amount of aid given to students and will be sponsoring full four-year scholarships for every BAUSA scholar, beginning in Fall of 2010.
